Elementary Modern Standard Arabic I
Introduction to modern standard Arabic language. Includes an overview of the modern standard Arabic language, speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, interpersonal transactions and cultural contexts.
Performance Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to do the following:
- Read and write the modern standard Arabic alphabet.
- Explain and pronounce all modern standard Arabic sounds
- Apply simple grammatical structures to daily communication.
- Describe common interpersonal transactions and protocols.

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to do the following:
- Read and write additional characters and sentences in the modern standard Arabic alphabet.
- Explain and pronounce additional modern standard Arabic sounds, consonants, words, and sentences.
- Apply additional simple grammatical structures to daily communication.
- Describe common interpersonal transactions and protocols.
- Identify and discuss additional components of the Arabic culture.

Beginning Conversation
Introduction to conversational Arabic. Includes basic oral and written forms, grammatical structures, interpersonal transactions, and cultural perspectives. Also includes speaking and listening skills with primary emphasis on oral communication.
Performance Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to do the following:
- Use basic oral and written Arabic forms utilizing Levantine dialect - Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Palestine.
- Apply simple grammatical structures to oral communication.
- Perform simple interpersonal transactions in daily home, work, or social situations such as: introducing themselves and others, discussion of daily activities, family and living situations, and childhood memories.
- Discuss regional cultural differences among Arabic speakers.
