Canada College offers a variety of French as a second language courses
within a well-structured program designed to meet the requirements of
beginner to advanced adult learners. Learning outcomes are specified for
each level, ensuring continuity in the language training options made
available to our learners. Course content and structure are adapted to
best meet the needs and preferences of learners as well as individual
learning styles, prior knowledge, interests and abilities. Furthermore,
cultural and community integration activities are part and parcel of the
various French as a second language training options provided.
Course Description
BEGINNER I:
Duration: 48h

This course is designed for "true" beginners and will begin
with the very basics of French grammar. Students will learn how to introduce
themselves and greet others, how to give and understand simple directions
and how to ask and answer specific questions.
BEGINNER II:
Duration: 48h
Fee: $336.00
This course is a continuation of BEGINNER I therefore students enrolling
in this course should already have some basic knowledge of French (i.e.
the alphabet, numbers, how to conjugate verbs in the present tense, and
be able to perform the tasks as described in the previous course). Upon
completion of BEGINNER II, students should be able to speak about work,
family, their interests, the weather, and to participate in brief conversations.
INTERMEDIATE I:
Duration: 48h
Fee: $336.00
Student enrolling in this course should already be able to communicate
in French and must already have a general understanding of French grammar
(i.e. present, past and future tenses). At the end of this course, students
will be able to participate in conversations with greater ease. Students
at this level will also work at developing their writing skills.
INTERMEDIATE II:
Duration: 48h
Fee: $336.00
Upon completion of this course, students will have achieved a level at
which they feel comfortable and confident enough to participate in conversations
and discussions on general topics. Students will also have developed the
skills to begin communicating with ease in writing.
FRENCH ADVANCED I:
Duration: 48h
Fee: $336.00
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to participate
effectively in most formal and informal conversations on practical, social
and professional topics. Students will also be able to obtain and analyse
information and opinions and will learn how to co-chair meetings and debates.
Students will have mastered enough of the language to enable them to do
advanced tasks such as defend an opinion, deal with hypothetical issues,
and discuss complex work-related issues.
FRENCH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE:
Duration: 48h

This course is designed for students at an Advanced level who wish to
explore Francophone cultures. The classes will focus on group discussions
about history, literature, film and music in Canada and
around the world.
FRENCH ADVANCED II:
Duration: 48h
Fee: $336.00
These course is designed for students who have studied French up to advanced
Level I or similar. The aim is to improve your performance and confidence
in your use of French and develop the different language skills equally
(speaking, writing, reading and listening). The courses are practical
and have a core language component for social situations, and also include
language and topics for specific professional purposes. You will be able
to choose from a range of topics which include media, advertising, the
world of communications, ecology, manufacturing and change etc and will
be studied from different angles according to your interests.
FRENCH FOR CONVERSATION
Duration: 80h
Fee: $650.00
This course is ideal for people wanting to maintain and improve their
spoken French and is designed for those who have completed Beginner II
or beyond. It will concentrate on communicating in real-life situations
through discussions and debate thereby improving confidence, fluency and
pronunciation, as well as expanding vocabulary, including colloquialisms.
Resources will include the latest in French television and video documentaries,
interviews, films, music, magazines, which will promote lively discussions
and encourage students to express opinions "en français".
Course Outline:
This course will cover all aspects of spoken French required for fluent
conversation in a variety of situations with emphasis on style, language
register, accent, syntax, grammar points, vocabulary, colloquialisms etc.
Each session will focus on either a video documentary, magazine or newspaper
article or a recorded interview on a precise topic followed by comprehensive
explanation and discussion. In twelve weeks, the course covers each session
will be organized as such:
Introduction with an authentic resource (Careful examination of Role-playing
(related to resource material) to discover and practice different tones,
nuances and expressions (how to express admiration or displeasure etc.)
Open discussion related to the subject to encourage students to express
their opinions and thoughts in the most accurate way.
Learning Outcomes:
On completion of the course, learners will be able to speak on a prepared
topic; pronounce French correctly using a range of regular and irregular
verbs in different modes and tenses; discuss various aspects of French
culture; read and comprehened French at an advanced level; understand
the grammatical issues linked with oral practice; express their own opinions
on political, social, general issues in French; explain significant cultural
events and issues and contemporary French society.
Target Market:
This course is specially tailored for those who want to develop conversational
fluency in French and have completed 70 hours or more of tuition or equivalent.

A reading and writing course with emphasis on vocabulary and logical structure in written expression. Instruction in class, in lab and online.

French for Immigration Interview
If you are planning to appear before the Immigration Judge, and not sure of your French competency, this course is for you. We train you as if you are sitting in front of the Immigration judge. The course is thought by an Immigration lawyer.
