RUS 101 Elementary Russian I

Introduction to the Russian language. Includes Cyrillic alphabet, greetings, gender, readings, communications, and activities.

Performance Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to do the following:

  1. Read, write, and speak simple words and phrases.
  2. Express formal and informal modes of address.
  3. Recite gender differences using pronouns, nouns, and adjectives.
  4. Discuss present tense situations, Russian states, people, language, and customs.
  5. Express situations using verbs, prepositional and accusative cases.
  6. Express verbs of motion and the cases required by these verbs.

RUS 102 Elementary Russian II

Prerequisite(s): RUS 101.

Continuation of RUS 101. Includes grammar and vocabulary, housing and furniture, family and professions, shopping, money and measurements, and biographies of people.

Performance Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to do the following:

  1. Read, write, and speak Russian words and phrases.
  2. Read, write, and speak Russian words and phrases involving housing and furniture.
  3. Read, write, and speak Russian words and phrases involving family and professions.
  4. Read, write, and speak Russian words and phrases involving shopping.
  5. Read, write, and speak Russian words and phrases involving money and measurements.
  6. Read, write, and speak Russian words and phrases involving expressions of resemblance, location, and time.

RUS 201 Intermediate Russian I

Prerequisite(s): RUS 102 or two years of high school Russian.

Continuation of RUS 102. Includes grammar review, plural case endings, prepositional/accusative cases, weather and climate, and reflexive verbs.

Performance Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to do the following:

  1. Read, write, and speak previously covered vocabulary.
  2. Apply the plural cases for each gender.
  3. Read, write, and speak preposition/accusative cases.
  4. Read, write, and speak words and phrases concerning weather and climate.
  5. Use the reflexive verbs in writing and speaking.
  6. Read, write, and speak words and phrases concerning libraries, books, and journals.

  2. Vocabulary, cardinal numbers, emphatic pronouns, some important verbs and adjectives
  3. Oral communication review

Prerequisite(s): RUS 201.

Continuation of RUS 201. Includes grammar review, sports terms, health care terms, postal system, traveling in Russia, and etiquette.

Performance Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to do the following:

  1. Read, write, and speak previously covered vocabulary.
  2. Read, write, and speak words and phrases related to sports, interests, and hobbies.
  3. Read, write, and speak words and phrases concerning health care.
  4. Speak the correct terminology to utilize the postal system.
  5. Request the information and directions concerning travel activities.
  6. Use the formal and informal etiquette settings.
